Teaching
Charlotte Rowan is teacher of violin and viola at Perse School, St Faith’s Cambridge and King’s Ely.
With pupil success at all levels, from beginner to advanced, she is already making a name for herself as a seasoned pedagogue with a strong studio of young artists.
Her commitment and dedication to teaching can be seen in her dynamic and nurturing teaching style, where she combines the rudiments of a strong technical foundation with a constant search for musical expressiveness, interpretation and beauty of tone.
Having studied with Jerre Gibson and Violaine Melancon (whose own teachers have included Ivan Galamian and Arthur Grumiaux) Charlotte draws from a rich pedagogical lineage to create a teaching method unique to each pupils needs and develop individual potential.
Charlotte has taught the violin in environments of staggering variety, bringing together children of many different faiths and working with students from war-torn countries.
She is a powerful advocate in the equity of musical access and for the improvement of music and arts access and appreciation in our schools. She promotes the narrative that everyone deserves the opportunity to play an instrument, gain great enjoyment from music and to develop their talent.
Charlotte regularly gives masterclasses and is also a coach in chamber music, specialising in string quartets and piano trios. Her ensembles regularly achieve success at the finals of the UK Pro Corda Chamber Music Competition.
Charlotte is based in Cambridge, UK and also available for private lesson requests, in person or online.
